Donavan Murph
  • Introduction:  The Gamecocks truly might have saved the best for last when it comes to the 2025 class. Donavan Murph a dynamic 4 star wide receiver from right in there own backyard (Irmo) officially comes home. His roots run deep in this program with his dad being a former player and his cousin being arguably the best wide receiver to ever suit up in the garnet and black, Alshon Jeffery.  “The support from the coaching staff, the fans, and my family made this decision easy. I’m ready to continue my journey where it all began”, Murph said. At 6’2 190 Murph isn’t your typical reclassed wide receiver he will be ready to make an impact the second he steps on campus.  All he did was produce and put up gaudy numbers in high school with 153 receptions, over 2400 yards, and 29 touchdowns in his two years starting on varsity. He checks all the boxes you could possibly want in an X wide receiver and truly has no glaring holes in his game. What caught my eye watching his tape was his ability to run precise routes creating separation deep down the field and the ability to high point the football. He’s not a blazing track star but his football speed is off the charts and once he gets going he’s gonna blow right past you. His commitment is not just a win for the Gamecocks but a testament to the program's ability to put up a fence and retain top in-state talent.

  • Recruitment:  Initially a top 100 recruit in the 2026 class Murph decided to reclass in October of 2024. While there were many big time programs after him such as Georgia and Alabama it came down to the two instate schools. The Gamecocks had Murph on campus for a whopping 10 visits before he made his final decision. During these visits he created a deep bond with Coach Furrey and Beamer that turned out to be the deciding factor.  “From day one, Coach Beamer and Coach Furrey showed me what it means to be a Gamecock. Their dedication and family atmosphere they created made all the difference.” This was much more than just a football decision, this was where he felt at home and was an opportunity to continue his family's legacy at his hometown school.  Murph's visit to the A&M game was the final nail in the coffin for him as he silently committed to the Gamecocks that same weekend. “The roar of the crowd, and feeling the energy was indescribable” safe to say I don’t feel like Murphs heart ever wavered from the Gamecocks. He made his decision public at the Under Armor All American game where he had the catch of the day with a one handed highlight reel grab along the sideline. This was another feather in the cap of Coach Furrey and Beamer.

  • Strength and Skills:  A true alpha on and off the field is how I look at Murphs game. Beamer identified Murph as a top priority from the beginning, recognizing his potential to be a game-changer for the program. "Coach Beamer’s message was clear: they wanted me to be a cornerstone of their future," Murph shared. His size immediately gives him an edge and makes it almost impossible to knock him off his route. His ability to consistently high-point the football is a direct result of his keen spatial awareness and timing, traits that are critical for any X receiver tasked with winning one on one matchups downfield. He has the ability to absorb multiple hits and maintain balance allowing him to pick up significant yards after contact. In terms of route running, Murph displays a level of polish uncommon at the high school level. Running routes with extreme precision, manipulating the defensive back with leverage, intricate footwork and body control to create separation. He understands how to fool defenders with subtle head fakes and shoulder dips, which, when combined with his ability to sink his hips and explode out of cuts, makes him a nightmare to cover. This is evident in his high school tape, where the "pump-and-go" route was frequently utilized; defenders would often bite on the initial fake, allowing Murph to blow past them for big plays down the field.
